My interest in working with wood started on a wood lathe in 8th grade shop class. Years later, a box I made turned out so lopsided that I threw it as far as I could in a field behind my house.

The allure of wood persisted and I gradually bought basic tools and books. I learned to make pine furniture through various techniques gleaned from books and magazines as well as trial and error. Eventually, a planer and a jointer allowed me to start building with hardwoods which opened a whole new realm of design and construction possibilities.

Now, with a collection of many tools, some good, some mediocre, thirty years have passed since my first wooden box and thankfully, today's boxes are square! I'm always learning new and better ways to create and this keeps me heading to my shop to try them. Although there is always some new tool I could use, I try to make my own when possible and to use recycled materials. The feedback and support of my family and friends is an important part of my motivation for creating with wood.
